research

Quantitative research is usually made using scientific methods that may include stuff like theories/ hypotheses, collection of data, modelling and analysing data.  This use of research can be used to determinate significant findings. The advantages of this research are; Issues and subjects covered can be evaluated in depth and in detail, interviews wont be limited to certain questions and can also be redirected of guided by researchers.  The date collected depends on the experience of the human this is more powerful and compelling than data coming from quantitative research.

However there are some disadvantages of qualitative research such as; The quantity of data which can make analysis time consuming. Findings can take a long time to find and hard to present in ways. Sometimes qualitative research is not accepted especially with scientific communities.

Secondary research can also be known as desk research which in a brief summary means finding  research that has already been found and published on the internet or books. Cautions should be taken when practising secondary research as you will be using somebody else's primary research. Secondary research is widely practised in health research, legal research and marketing research. Facts, statistics and published reports are important sources for secondary research.     Secondary research can also be used for people who are writing articles and want to back themselves up without going out and getting their primary research. The advantages of secondary research are the following; Ease of access in the past secondary research had to be done in libraries, letter and possibly stories, however times have now changed and anyone with a pc, laptop, smart phone and tablet can now receive secondary research. The best advantage of secondary research is how cheap it is to acquire carrying out primal research can be expensive and time consuming why not use the internet to use somebody else's findings for free or very little cost.     Even though there are a lot of advantages to secondary research there are also quite a few disadvantages such as ; quality of the researcher as we all no using primary methods to collect data is mainly controlled by the marketer however when it comes from secondary methods the research might not be everything the marketer is looking for. Another disadvantage of secondary research is the spending for the information. Marketer's can argue with the person who has collected secondary research saying that the amount of quality information is not satisfactory for the money spent.
Another bad thing about using secondary research is that the date found in the research could be out of date information that could mean little value this is a big thing for companies that compete in fast changing markets. An example could be an article about a football team that has sold a player and the research used might have been posted before the change.

Primary research is new found research which is carried out to answer dead specific questions or issues. Primary research involves things like : questionnaire's, surveys, or interviews with small groups or individuals. Primary research involves collections of original data it is often practised after the researcher has carried out and reviewed secondary research of the same subject. Primary research is used to find out data for marketers that want to know more about people of the public for an example someone who wants to know what majority of the people in Middlesbrough support Middlesbrough Fc would go out and find primary research by asking random members of the public. Advantages of Primary research are; The researcher will be able to focus on qualitative and quantitative issues, Primary research allows the marketer to look at the subjects of the researcher and have an higher control over how the information is collected, primary research is more up to date and acute.
Disadvantages of primary research ; Due to the amount of time put into primary research by the time the researching is complete it may be out of date. Some projects of research may be off limits for the person who is researching. A big disadvantage of primary research is how expensive it can be for preparing and carrying out the research practise. Equipment for primary research can be expensive as well. A lot response rate will be expected.

The purpose of researching audiences is to see what type of person will consume your product. Research can contain information about knowledge, interests, preference, opinions and attitudes. The main purpose of audience research is for media companies to find who to target their products at for example if a movie company wanted to make a new horror film their target audience would be aged 18+. Audience research can be both done with primary and secondary research.

Marketing research is vital when making a media product making sure that your movie doesn’t come out at the same time as a movie with the same characteristics.

Annotating pages from books and web sites

One of the biggest TV shows of 2016 was created by the Duffer brothers who began their film careers in late 2011 after finishing college. Apart from Stranger Things they also have the Thriller 'Hidden' and some episodes of M. Night Shyamalan's. It is amazing how two new comers manage to sell a fantasy scfi series to Netflix never mind making it one of the most successful series. This TV show relates to mine as I want mine to be produced on Netflix. The Duffer brothers say they took ideas from the 2013 Prisoners which is a thriller about a man who searches for his missing daughter.  Stranger things also relates to the TV show I want to make because it has the same genres and characteristics.

These are films that have the most ratings it is important that I research about these current films as I can follow them and look out for what makes it an successful TV show so I can make sure that my own TV show is successful just like the top 10 above. This relates and is important because I want my TV show to be a successful and not to flop.

Jake Gyllenhaal is a famous actor staring in films like 'Night crawler' and 'Southpaw'. Jake is a widely known for being able to stick and perfect to a roll all throughout a film. He would relate in my TV show as the police officer that helps find the missing boy. He would play the part very well. I would have Ed Harris play the father of the family as he has the crazy man look who has been in movies like 'A beautiful mind' and 'The Truman Show' starring Jim Carey. Having famous actors not only helps the look of the show from their profession but it also helps promote the TV show

Advertising is a massive part of getting a production out there it is important that you can get as many people as you can to watch the show as the more people watch the more money you get. Daily you see as many as 5,000 advertisements a day. As the book says you can see adverts in  papers, websites, emails, posers, billboards and television. This relates to me as I could advertise my TV show on these platforms. Some film productions are even advertised in a TV break from a different TV show.

my tv show

My tv show
My idea is to create a tv show about 5 boys who live with their mum in a farm house in America. One of the boys gets abducted and nobody knows what or who has taken him.

The genre of my tv show will be drama and Horror.
Market research:  A popular tv show in the same genre is happy velley, which is a crime drama created by Sally Waintwright running time per show is 60 minutes and it also networked on BBC one and BBC one HD but Netflix have also purchased it be streamed on their services. In the first series the 6 episodes got an average of 8.21 million UK viewers. In the second series it hit 9.37 million Uk views. Happy Valley airs at 9pm. Happy Valley is a tv show evolving around Sgt Cathrinw Cawood and is located in western Yorkshire.

The other program I researched was stranger things which is an American series. Written and directed by Matt and Ross Duffer . The story is about a boy who disappears and his friends, police and mother try to find him. A telekinetic friends helps the friend in their search. The show is set in 1980s in a made up town called Hawkins the whole tv programme has a 1980's pop culture which adds aesthetically. This show is a Netflix original show released this year its already made highly positive reviews and a second series is in the making. The running time is about 42-55 minutes. Not only did it get 95% on rotten tomatoes it also gained 9/10 on IMDB and 9.1/10 from TV.com. Within the first 16 days of streaming it hit 8.2 million viewers. This Show is a Netflix original so it only airs on Netflix.

Another Popular show in the drama genre is Breaking Bad is another crime drama which is about a true story of Walter White who was a chemistry teacher that was diagnosed with lung cancer. So him and a former student Jesse Pinkman both turn to a life of crime by making and selling meth. Walter made the best meth so the buyers kept buying from him. Walter keeps making the meth to secure his families financial future before he dies. Breaking Bad was filmed in Albuquerque in New Mexico. Breaking Bad had originally aired on AMC for five seasons running from January 2008 to September 2013. It is widely saif to be on of the best television series of all time, when the series finale aired it the series was one of the most watched cable shows. A whopping 10.3 million people tuned in for the series finale.

The audience

The audience for my Tv show will be both male and female. They will be roughly be aged between 16-40. My Tv series will be aimed at people who already watch Dramas shows and films such as : Taken, Gone baby gone, Kidnap, and Flash which is a freak tv show about a super hero that can move really fast this will relate to my Tv show because its abnormal.  Also my show will be aimed at people who love suspense, who love not knowing whats happening until the very end. A lot of consumers of my program will use Facebook as well as Instagram and Twitter. I could use these social networking platforms to advertise my production. Audience member will also like American Horror Story which has a freaky touch to it. So they will like mine because it is the same.

In my Show I will need 5 young brothers. One aged 7, one aged 9, two aged 11 and one aged 13. A mother who looks after them on her own who is aged 50, a Sargent police officer aged 30. And an Uncle who tries to help find and looks after the Mother and the boys.  I will need minimally a crew of; Still photographer, boom operator, producer, audio mixer, camera operator. and a Director . My series will be located in

Synopisis episode on: Five brothers are playing hide and seek in a forest around their house one of them who is on finds three of the brothers but cannot find the fourth hider. Eventually the four brothers all end up looking for their brother getting more and more scared as time goes on. After three hours of looking the go running to their mum who is at home. They tell her and at first she thinks they're just being silly and thinks he is just still hiding. She goes out to look for him anyway. After 30 minutes she stats getting concerned and worried after an hour passes she rings the police crying knowing that her son is lost or has been abducted. The cops arrive to the forest of which the kid has been lost. After the mother tells the Sargent what has happened he calls a search party. Everyone in the town including the 4 other brothers go out looking for the 9 year old boy. Everyone is shocked because they live in a nice neighbourhood were nothing like this happens.

Episode two; The mother starts getting depressed knowing that the possibility of her son living is slim and it is dropping. 3 days after searching the police call it quits but the brothers still think he is out there. Meanwhile their dad comes to see them. They've never seen their dad ever before.  He was a deadbeat a nobody that didn't do anything for them. There mum hated him being there but he insisted that he wanted to help look for his son. The boys didn't pay interest to their father.

Episode three: The Sargent finds clothes in the forest he runs them back to the mum and asks if they were her boys. And they are this opens a world of possibilities for the watcher. The kid could be still alive so the search is called back on.

why do we do research?

we do secondary research like using the internet and in books
Research is done to find out sources which is can be used to make news paper articles, stories , movies, books. Primary research is making statistics and what the public think and want. This can be helpful for making a movie because you can research what the people want.

Market research is when information is found about the market at the time. for example what is hyped up at the time.
audience research is finding what type of audience you want to make a product for
Production research is when information is found about the history of the product, how it was made, who made it, when it was made

Quantitative: box office figures, programe rating, hits on a website

Qualitative is reviews, response to news coverage,

A tweet can be a qualitative review on a media product. But it can also be attitudes to media products.

A youtube video that shows how many views the video has gained is a example Quantitative ,
Finding the box office figures on google is also quantitative.
Rotten Tomatoes rates programs and films which is also quantitative.

The Amazing Spider-man

runner boy

Runner boys are the the interns that help and look after all the crew members and actors ig make them teas and fetch them water. Runers will also transport scripts, get everything in place. The pay for runners is pretty basic from £6.50 to £8.80 per hour although some companies might pay more than this. Working hours for a runner can be vey unpredictable. Mostly up to six days a week.
Runners have responsibilities of giving out post to the clients, prop hiring,  stock ordering, answering the telephone on set, checking out camera bags for equipment.
